The Process

The entire process is somewhat lengthy. Each painting is sketched on either a Russian birch panel or clayboard, and then, it is inked out. This is done sometimes with colour and at other times, in black and white. Then, the underpainting is done. It can be gesso or ground mixed with colour to give the painting a colour to unite each piece. It can be any colour, deep blue, orange, yellow or even a rich black, depending on the subject matter. Now, the fun begins! Oil paint is layered to give shape and draw the eye in. The end result is bold and beautiful. Kim paints on panel, to provide a solid and long-lasting painting. After a period of six months, each piece is varnished in order to provide protection.

The Tiles

Tiles Each tile is sketched and painted with a special paint from France that adheres to the tile once dried and low-heat fired. The gold is done with a tube that allows for a three-dimensional appearance that mimics stained glass. Once completed, they are coated with a clear coat for extra protection.

The tiles come in four sizes:

4x4
4.25x 4.25
6x6
8x8
